Measuring 9" overall, top to bottom, and very heavy (about 4lbs). This bronze door knocker came from the Portsmouth, Virginia home of Confederate Naval Captain James Wallace Cooke, and has a silver plaque on the mounting bushing that reads: CAP'T JAMES W. COOKE. Cooke was born in 1812 and joined the U. S. NAVY as a Midshipment at an
