Raised in 1847 the X11 Bengal Irregular Cavalry was one of Regiments that rebelled against British Rule in the 1857/59 Indian Mutiny (Sepoy Rebellion) and many troopers fled to Nepal to avoid execution by the vengeful British Government troops that subsequently took over India from the Honorable East India Company in 1859 thereby bringing India directly under British rule

The Belt is in excellent condition considering its age, showing obvious signs of honest wear, and age from decades in storage. The belt is constructed of two inch wide blackened buff leather, and is fitted with a circa 1863 brass belt keeper, which was an improvement over the earlier model M 1855 Waist belt which had an integrally sewn loop
