B.J. Smith: Dedications to the Greats (Mos Def, Pharcyde) 10" Thud Rumble / QBert flip to the "Songs" sideB. J. Smith (of Smith & Mudd fame) delivers a pair of brilliant cover versions of two hip hop favorites. Anyone familiar with Smith's work with Smith & Mudd should already know he is an expert in chilled out balearic grooves, and here he lends his soft touch to stone cold classics from Mos Def & the Pharcyde. Somehow Smith is able to extrude the deep, soulful vibes from the core of the originals and translate them into stunning balearic folk ballads.
