John Isaac May served in Kamerun (Cameroon) on 4 August 1915 with the Royal Garrison Artillery. He served as a Gunner before subsequently transferring to the 12th Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment where he worked as a Private. In Kamerun he was discharged due to 'sickness' on 3 July 1917. For his war service, he was further entitled to the 1914 15 Star and Silver War Badge.
